Songs to Heal Through Maternal Narcissistic Abuse Recovery

Music can be so cathartic. It can validate how we feel, tell our story, uplift us, give us hope, and inspire us to keep going even when we want to give up. That’s why I love incorporating music into my work with clients, especially in group work.

In the first round of my Finding Your Voice: Maternal Narcissistic Recovery Group for Women, I found a different song to play each week for my clients. The songs tied in with the topics we discussed each week. I intentionally chose songs performed by women to showcase the power and strength women have to overcome and thrive after challenging circumstances.

But even if you never get a chance to be a part of this group, I wanted to share the songs to help you in your healing journey. I’ve included some questions you may want to ask yourself as you listen to the songs or journal about later.

Week 1

“Brave” by Sara Bareilles

Managing Triggers

Week 3

Week 4

Grieving Mom

Week 5

Week 6

Week 7

Questions to ask yourself or journal about:

  • What thoughts or memories come up as I listen to this song?
  • What feelings come up as I listen to this song?
  • What am I noticing in my body as I listen to this song?
  • How does the message in this song relate to what I went (or am going) through?
  • Do I feel validated or hopeful as I listen to this song?

Are there any songs you’ve found helpful in your healing journey? Feel free to let me know here.
